World
World in Ashes of Creation may refer to:
- The world of Verra.[1]
- World servers.[6]
Verra
The name of the Ashes of Creation world is Verra.[1]
- Verra exists in the material plane.[8]
- There are constellations and multiple moons in the night sky of Verra.[9][10]
- Players start in Verra a few short months after the very first expeditionaries were sent through the divine gateways when they opened from Sanctus.[11]
世界地圖
The world of Verra features an in-game viewable world map. This map is not randomly generated, and begins covered in a fog of war.[2] Players will not be able to see the world until they have explored it or gathered information about it. The world is also full of imperfect information, which will require the player to act on it for verification.[15]
- For example, you may hear a rumor in a tavern that tells you the location of a cave full of weak Kobolds, but this was not accurate as the rumor was started by well-equipped bandits in order to waylay overconfident adventurers.[15]
- Information about the world will be presented directly to players through the world map UI as it is gathered.[16][17]
- Node tax rates will be visible on the world map by hovering over a node location on the UI.[18]
- The map UI will potentially incorporate player created location markers that are visible by other party members.[19]
- Previously, detailed information about the world was only available through the Library unique node building.[20]
- Not every server will share the same map, as player decisions will vary between servers.[21][22][17]
- The map will have geographical choke points caused by non-traversable obstacles (such as Mountains).[23][24][25]
- Even though we're an open-world that doesn't mean that from a design perspective, especially with the way our economic systems work, that we will want to create Geographic choke points.[24] – Steven Sharif
- Zones in Ashes of Creation will cater to all levels.[26]
Environments/biomes
There are approximately 18 biomes (environments) in Ashes of Creation.[3]
We just wanted to represent just about every biome type under the sun really and just have enough diversity over the world that like when you went from area to area , you really just got a contrast of different biome types.[32] – Michael Bacon
Seasons
Seasons affect different zones (environments/biomes) based on their location in the world.[35][36]
- A majority of environments will experience either two or four seasons, excluding corrupted areas, which is considered a "season" itself.[37]
- Some biomes will have seasons that are less (or more) temperate. For example: Northern, Southern and Tropical regions.[38] Other biomes will have fixed climates.[4]
- Biomes that are affected by seasonal cycles may experience drastic visual differences between seasons.[35]
- Events may radically change the current season a zone is in, or elongate it.[39][40] This includes weather changes.[36]
- There will also be magical seasons where you might be in a tropical zone and suddenly it's snowing.[38]
- 物品, crop cycles, buildings, and crafting mechanics might gain certain buffs or debuffs in certain seasons.[39][41][36]
- Ocean and underwater areas will not have seasonal changes.[42]
- Winter might have a spawner that activates on a road that spawns at large fallen tree and players who see that will have an opportunity to go up and exert some type of one-time action that helps in removing that tree and it might require X number of people to do that before the tree gets removed; and that as an example is not beneficial for the transit of goods because as caravans require- well they don't require but they move better on roads and if that tree were present let's say blocking a road that led to a bridge per-se that they would have to off-road.[36] – Steven Sharif
- Different seasons may affect access to various roads.[39][40][36]
- Pathways that are open during summer may be closed during winter.[36]
- Seasonal affects may cause obstacles or blockages to the transit of goods via caravan.[39][40][43]
- Water turning to ice in winter, enabling players to walk over the water but blocking access to what is underneath.[36]
- Ice will make roads bumpy and slippery.[44]
- Seasonal flooding is something the developers are talking about internally, but will not be present in Alpha-2.[45]
Seasonal cycles
Seasons change on a regular basis, but may also be triggered or elongated by certain events.[47][48][49]
- They might last longer if you don't deal with the dragon, or if you keep that relic active, but these on a cycle on a cyclical perspective as a normal season transition might be exist within a one week timeframe right and then it transitions over a period of hours.[48] – Steven Sharif
- The weather systems, the season systems, that's going to be a obvious point of testing for Alpha 2 of course. We're going to play around with the different cycles and and times and how they impact the economy, the rotation of resources, the movement of goods: all of those things play into the purpose- one of the purposes of having seasonal systems. So that is something that we are going to play with during our Alpha 2 testing and will land on what feels both most comfortable- is visually appealing, but also has the impact on the economy that we desire to see on the design side.[50] – Steven Sharif
- In Ashes of Creation the world will change on a regular basis. Zones will progress in a seasonal cycle, which will alter the very nature of the environment around you. Snow may block pathways that are accessible in warmer months, spring may encourage creatures otherwise unseen to come to the surface, and fall might be the only time that certain crops thrive. This cycle can then take in the state of the world’s Nodes and shift depending on their progression.[43]
Climates
Some environments (Biomes) have fixed climates and others are variable.[33][4][29] Dynamic weather of varying intensity can triggered by certain events.[53][33][39][54]
- During those weather events, the area of effect that the event is occurring in will likely have its climate descriptor overridden by whatever the event is specifically. So tornadoes might be windy, blizzards might be cold. And if an arctic dragon comes into a temperate climate it brings the cold weather with it; and that can be interacting with skills and abilities or other functions like farms.[55] – Steven Sharif
- Certain abilities and also professions (such as 農業) may be enhanced or hindered during certain climates and seasonal weather events.[56][57][33][55][58] For example: lightning might be stronger in the rain.[56]
- There are climate effects that occur from a buff standpoint. They can also affect skills like, let's say you're using a frost bolt in a winter climate. There's the ability for those effects to be enhanced and/or stronger in those climates.[58] – Steven Sharif
- Weather conditions affect mob spawning, side quests, gatherables, vehicles, mounts, ships, resistances, targeting, and boss mechanics.[53][57][33]
- Access to dungeons and raids may also be hindered or blocked by changes in climate.[57]
- It was later stated that loot tables will likely not be affected by weather conditions.[57]
- They affect crops and gatherables, vehicles, and mounts, ships, creatures; and loot tables change: their behaviors might change. Resistances and weaknesses or synergies might be relevant in certain seasons or weather systems. Targeting might change the AoE radius might grow for a fire effect if you're in the middle of summer, or it might shrink if you're in the middle of a storm.[34] – Steven Sharif
- Weather events and encounters themselves can include hazards that can appear and shake things up. They can also help too, if you can kite enemies into the lightning strikes or whatever.[52] – Skott B
伺服器
The world will be the same on each server, but 節點 will develop differently. Different servers will have different narratives. Things that happen on one server may not happen on another.[21][22][17]
- To answer your question about "what stops all servers from from progressing the same nodes," the answer to that question is "other players." Certain content is locked behind different nodes that develop. If we assume that at some point all of the information regarding node progression is available, not all players on a server may agree on what content they want access to, or that they want other players to have access to. Even if a certain perks from node progression are considered "best value" to players trying to solve a node meta, that doesn't mean all players on a server benefit from that in the same way. Because of this, some players make act against your best interests, because it isn't their best interest. Nodes define (and redefine) the world around you, influence points of interest, world quest lines, story arcs, drop tables, resource pools, and even spawn tables for NPCs and bosses. The cycle of nodes leveling and triggering events is something we expect to see play out in a variety of different ways, across different servers, based on how players choose to play Ashes of Creation.[21] – Ry Schueller
- There will be a multitude of servers located throughout the various regions of the world.[60]
- Server selection will show the region where the server is located and/or the ping to that server.[60]
- With regards to live launch when the server's go live, you'll be selecting a server to play on; and that will be your character's home; and that server you'll be aware of where that server is located usually by either a ping or a region that's notated on next to the server.[60] – Steven Sharif
- The developers may occasionally release stats relating to server populations and archetype/class makeup, but there isn't going to be an official page that surfaces this information.[61]
- Stats are available on a per-guild basis, subject to a permissions structure.[61]
- Server-firsts will be able to be captured and collected on memory fragments that players can collect in-game so they may relive their experiences.[62]
